Should we consider Lobotomizing chronic violent felons?

After watching the programs on our US prisons on MSNBC, National Geographic and the History Channel, I have no doubt our current prison system does nothing to protect us in the long run from these people. Feel good counseling is a waste of time. Many of these people are anti-social psychopaths who care nothing about human life (not even their own). Would it be safer for all concerned (the public and the criminal) and cheaper to just lobotomize the most dangerous these carreer criminals? After wards, they would no longer present a danger to the public and could lead safer lives. Lobotomies won't turn them into zombies, but it will defiantly take the piss out of their vinegar..
