Can somebody explain something for me from the movie 'Terminator 2: Judgement Day'?

Halfway through Terminator 2 John,Sarah and The Terminator hide out in a gas station for the night and they decide to reset The Terminator's CPU for some reason,I found this kinda pointless. What am I missing here?
